Puerto Pollensa – A Stunning Retreat
Gathered around a pretty little horseshoe shaped bay, Puerto Pollensa is a great destination for couples and families. Majorca offers diverse appeal; white sandy coves, quaint little hilltop villages and tranquil olive groves. It shies away from the brash resorts in the south of the country, and offers a brilliant escape for the discerning traveller.
Whilst in the bay, try one of the boat excursions. These are half a day trips, and take you around the edge of the island. The sky blue waters and beautiful hills make an excellent backdrop to your ride, and you will get to see the stunning lighthouse at Formentor from an angle not usually accessible to tourists.
If you are strolling around Puerto Pollensa, you won’t be able to miss the sea plane. A clever idea to combat fires on the mountains, the sea plane flies over a few times a day and scoops water from the sea, taking it to the higher ground and distributing it over the scrub land. Often startling to the unaware visitor, this adds beautiful colour to the back drop, and protection to the habitants of the island.
A great thing to look out for when strolling along by the beach is the sand sculptures. Admittedly, when you go on holiday you are bound to see someone making a sandcastle, but these are on a different level. In the shapes of cars and castles, my favourite was the night we wandered along the walkway on our way back from dinner to be greeted by the most beautiful sand dragon, complete with little tealights in its eyes and around its nose, creating a magical feeling of reality. The sculptures sit there on the sand for a few days, before being whisked away into something completely different.
Make sure you prepare yourself when you travel. Cheap Insurance is available in the UK for a week’s holiday here and there, and will cover you against theft or change of circumstance. If you are a more frequent flyer, an Annual Travel Insurance policy will be better suited to you, as this means you can take off as and when you please without too much worry, and it’s all paid for.

I might be interested in selling it, but I don’t know what it is worth. It is about 3 feet tall and is hand carved from a black wood. It is signed “MAXWELL”. The piece is entitled “The Acrobats”. I was once told that it is very valuable, but I would like to know more. Can anyone help ?
