Woodworking As A Business
When you make woodworking your business, there will always be a demand for your products. Considering that people are in need of furniture all the time. Not only that, woodworking can also produce boxes, toys and many other things people fancy on a daily basis. There will always be a market for woodwork products.
Therefore, woodworking is a wonderful business opportunity you can venture in.
Nowadays, a lot of woodworking products are supplied in the market due to the demand of the public. Shipping crates and armoires are also other example of woodworking products a woodworker can supply to his client.
There is also a growing market that is devoted for hand-made wooden toys. Despite video games appearing left and right, surprisingly there are still children who prefer to play with toys made from wood.
Since you have the talent and the skill creating woodwork products, and you clearly have the interest and passion in doing so, you can let the money roll in by trying out your hand and your sawhorse bench on a woodworking business.
Here are the things you need in order for you to start your woodworking business. First of, you need to know your territory. Obtain the local requirements in order for you to open your business. Above all, you have to know what type of items you will produce. Strategize first since this is necessary on the tools and supplies that you must have with you.
Consider joining trade organizations that are connected to woodworking. This will assist you in spreading the word about your work through the events and shows that will also be of good assistance in showcasing the pieces that you have.
You must also have a supplier of woods and tools. Your supplier must be someone of a company you fully trust. Never use sub-standard materials. Quality is very important when it comes to producing woodwork. You want to be famous for delivering the goods – literally and figuratively. Since woodworking products are expected to be durable, give your clients what they hope and paid for. Notice that the minute your purchasers see that your products are long-lasting, you will be getting lots of referrals.
The minute you struck a trusting relationship with the supplier of your wood working business, you then work on the advertising aspect of the business. There are so many ways on how you can showcase your products to the market. One is by having a web site that is targeted to clients. You can upload pictures of your products. This is a great way to have your business out there. A lot of people shop online. Once they like what they see, their purchasing from you is just a mouse click away.
You can also go for the traditional selling of your product. Display your works of art in flea markets, malls, outlet stores, arts and crafts fairs and trade shows. By marketing your products at furniture and special stores, your woodworking business is sure to roll.
But double check that you do not book your business too much. Maintain the level of quality of your business during the whole sales process. It is always quality over quantity.
Use the internet to your advantage by spreading the word of your business through forum discussion boards and bulletin boards. You can also advertise on trade magazines.
Seize every opportunity that you can and make the most out of it. It will not only boost up your business’ profile, but your woodworker’s resume as well. You can also enter woodworking trade contests. You may get referrals and contacts.
Do not limit your business’ potential. You can even reach out to the home décor and fashion side of the whole woodworking business. By producing beautifully crafted accessories such as bowls, kitchenware and the like, your business will gain more popularity.
For fun, you can try the artistic side of the woodworking field. Make frames, sculptures and other art projects that you can sell along with your furniture.
Woodworking is both enjoyable and practical – that’s why it makes the perfect career for a passionate woodworker.

what kind of screws should i have?

this is a gift for mom.
you need to build an armature first. go to the library and look at beginning sculpture books. I would first get a flat piece of wood as a base. then get some thick but bendable wire and bend it to shape of horse. start with a hoof and try to just use the one piece of wire. put a small curve in the end for a hoof, then use a short screw – phillips (with the cross shape) head is best to screw it to the base , then start bending the wire, makeing leg, then a belly, then a back leg, then the buttocks, then the other side of the lower body, then the neck heaad and back etc. you willsee as you go and experiment with it. nobody ever said art was easy. art is hard work. all artists have to try several things to get something done. keep trying. It also takes a lot of advance planning.
antoher way to do it is go to your local craft shop and buy some small flat piecs of wood, and build yourself a simple stick horse sort of armature. Screw it to the base from the bottom with screws or glue it (hold with clothespins or rubberbands, use wood glue) . then fill out the form by using small sticks and twigs to get the shape you want. Look at Deoborah Butterfield’s sculpture drift wood horses on her web site. beautiful and wonderful. she is a good artist. good luck.
ps.s. you could also try sculpting ahorse in “air dry” clay first to get the hang of the shape. there are books at library telling you how to sculpt animals.

A Six Day Room Makeover
We live and walk through our homes every day after awhile we no longer notice the little things. Every so often we need to sit down and take a good long hard look at a room in our home and begin planning on how to make it shine like new once again. Taking several photographs of the room can help you notice what seems out of place or what does not “go” with the rest of the room. Take the photographs with you when you go to the design store.
Most design professionals would have you start with the wall colors, well when you start your room make over it is a good idea to start with painting, but in the early design stages it is best to start with the items that will be hard to change later. Pick your furniture style, color and texture of the fabric first then move on to things like the carpet or wood floors. These things are either very expensive or hard to change once they are done, while changing the paint on the wall is quite easy.
Changing the look and feel of your furniture can be less expensive than you may have thought for example upholstering simple dining room chairs can easily be done by most handy home owner. Upholstery fabric comes in a standard width of 54 inches wide and is sold by the yard so 1 yard would yield a piece of fabric 36 inches by 54 inches. Measure the area that you will be recovering. Tip draw a picture of the shape of the piece of material you need some what to scale showing the size in relationship to the piece of fabric this will help you determine how much fabric to purchase. Tip you can use the old fabric for a pattern to cut your new fabric. You can use staples or tacks to hold the new fabric to your chairs. Larger items such a sofa or a chair that are much ore difficult to recover can effectively be transformed by purchasing or making slip covers to change the look and feel of your furniture.
Adding accent touches to round out your makeover is a key element in the overall look of the room, adding wood items is always a good choice in a traditional home. There is no replacement for the natural beauty and warmth that wood gives to a room. These wood accent pieces can be in the form of a lamp, sculptures or even a simple Shaker peg coat rack. Wainscotings is another excellent way to add the warmth of wood although this will take additional time and expense.
A room makeover can be done in six days or even less depending on the level of redesign. Allow one to two days to pick out and pick up all the supplies you will need. One day to paint. Another one to two days to redo the floor, professional’s can install a wood floor or carpet a room in one day. A final day to clean up and arraign your accent items a new room in six days.
